Camilla Dallerup: My Advice For Putting Your Dreams First

3 MIN READ • 1st August 2019

Our motivational guru thinks the end of summer is the perfect time to take stock and reassess our goals – here’s her top advice for putting your dreams first…

As we head into the latter part of summer, we might start getting the autumn blues, realising that Christmas is only four months away! So, it’s a great time to check in with yourself and your schedule. Making sure you have made room for the things that keeps the fire in your belly ignited and are going to keep you motivated and on track with the goals you set yourself at the beginning of the year. In my book Reinvent ME, I wrote a whole chapter about the importance of nurturing your talents and how this helps your forward motion in all areas in life. If you are wanting to move towards a goal in one area but are feeling lost or stuck, it can help to focus on one of your passions or hobbies and let the joy of doing that one thing, whether it’s sports, singing or writing, help change your mood and raise your vibration, aiding you in unlocking the blockages in the area you felt stuck. It’s vital that you create the actual time in your schedule for your dreams to come through; nothing grows without intention and nurture and the same goes for your dreams. Grab your diary now and add in times to nurture the things that matter in your life. A lot can be done in four months if you focus and knuckle down now. What’s the first thing you are going to make sure you do this week? That’s it, write it down and let’s go!

Try this now: You are enough

One of the most common things I see people struggle with in my coaching business is the feeling of not being enough. I have been there myself and I know how that feeling can ultimately stand in your way of doing the epic things you dream of in life. It’s so easy to compare yourself to others, especially on social media and feel less than and that everyone has what it takes except you, but that’s not the case. As Henry Ford once said: “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right” – sometimes it’s simply a matter of changing that negative affirmation you are telling yourself saying, “you are not enough” to “I am enough”. As Louise Hay said: “You may not believe it at first, but as you keep saying it, you will re-programme your brain to believe it.” Here is a quick daily meditation that can help support you retrain your mind.

1. Sit somewhere you can relax and close your eyes. Connect to your breath.

2. Repeat the words “I am enough”, “I” on the in breath and “am enough” on the out breath.

3. Repeat the words silently in your mind for five minutes daily to raise your feeling and believe it.

What to read this month

Don’t Hate, Meditate by Megan Monahan

I already enjoyed Megan’s work as spiritual and meditation teacher and have popped into many of her classes at Unplug – the meditation studio we both work at in LA – before I fell in love with her debut book. I have no doubt this will be a great support to anyone starting out on their meditation journey, or just trying to navigate through a difficult patch in their lives.

Megan keeps it real when it comes to talking about her own journey into meditation and how it has supported her and her clients in positive ways. The book is filled with helpful meditations and leading questions for you to ask yourself to guide your healing journey. If you are someone who is struggling to stay present in the moment and either feel like you’re stuck going over the past or worrying about the future, you will enjoy diving into the meditations and the tools. Reading through the book is literally like having a personal meditation teacher at hand. Megan makes many brilliant and enlightening points throughout. One specific point I love is where she asks the reader to let anything we say pass through three gates, considering whether what we are saying is true, necessary or kind. This book will guide you deeper within to explore your spiritual journey, while learning practical meditations and mantras.
