How To Keep The Peace When Social Isolating With Your Partner

1 MIN READ • 14th April 2020

Working from home has its benefits: you’ve got unlimited access to snacks, you can forget about wearing jeans and you also get to spend a lot of time with the person you love.

However, the latter also comes with some pitfalls. Raise your hand if you’ve already resorted to calling each other ‘Cheryl’ yet – an invisible colleague who you can blame things on, such as leaving dirty dishes in the sink or the toilet seat up.

And, with no signs of lock-down being lifted, it appears we’re in this for the long haul, so how can you cohabit with your significant other without killing them? Anna Whitehouse, Heart FM presenter and co-author of Where’s My Happy Ending? With husband Matt Farquharson is here to give her advice on the subject.

“My husband Matt and I wrote a book last year called Where’s My Happy Ending? for which we asked the big question a lot of people might be asking themselves in this current climate.

“We learned that there is no such thing as happily ever after, but ‘good enough’ is actually pretty great, and there are plenty of small things you can do every day to make it work.

“We split the day in half – I work in the morning whilst he keeps the children alive and semi-educated, and then we swap. We’ve also decided to dress like our former selves once a week and have a civilised dinner together.

“Remember it’s OK to ask for some time by yourself if you can get it. Read a book, talk to a friend – anything for you.”
