5 Foods To Beat Cellulite

3 MIN READ • 6th May 2016

Eat your way to smoother skin with these beauty-boosting bites...

  • 5 Foods To Beat CellulitePEPPERS
Peppers are great for boosting your metabolism and stimulating the digestive system. “The crunchy veg is packed with vitamin C, which is an antioxidant that improves circulation and helps your body synthesise collagen and diminish the appearance of cellulite,” says chief nutritionist for Atkins, Linda O’Byrne. “The colourful vegetable also contains vitamin A, which works together with vitamin C to help prevent damage to your skin cells, which is part of the reason cellulite develops in the first place.”
    TIP
Chop up yellow, red and orange peppers and add to salads, or slice into large sections and dip into houmous for a healthy snack

  • 5 Foods To Beat CelluliteCABBAGE
Cabbage is packed full of vitamins C, E and K, making it a powerful detoxifier. “The green veggie is rich in bioflavonoids, which are potent antioxidants that not only protect your cells, but also strengthen your capillaries and connective tissues, as well as improve blood flow,” Linda explains. “This is vital when fighting against the orange peel effect. The veg also contains polyphenols, which can act as anti-inflammatories, reducing the appearance of cellulite.”
    TIP
Try steaming cabbage instead of boiling it to help preserve the nutrients. Serve as a side dish drizzled with a little olive oil

  • 5 Foods To Beat CelluliteAVOCADOS
Avocados are bursting with B vitamins and key nutrients, like potassium and zinc. “Avocados are a great cellulite-busting food, as they’re packed with fibre and healthy fats that help to fill you up, so you’re less likely to over-eat,” says Linda. “Plus, they contain oleic acid, which can curb your appetite, and glutathione, which helps your liver to eliminate toxins – a prime cause of cellulite.”

    TIP

Mash half a ripe avocado with two chopped cherry tomatoes and spring onions, and enjoy as a dip with celery sticks

  • 5 Foods To Beat CelluliteHERBAL
Herbal teas can make up part of your daily water intake. “Staying well hydrated is vital, both for promoting proper liver function and flushing out toxins, which can contribute to cellulite,” Linda explains. “As dehydration is often mistaken for hunger, rehydrating can help you to feel fuller and prevent unhealthy snacking, which, in turn, can help you to maintain optimal fat levels and smoother skin.” Dandelion tea can be particularly effective for helping to break down toxins, and green tea has also been shown to increase metabolic rate and promote weight-loss.

    TIP

Swap your morning cup or black tea or coffee for a refreshing herbal tea instead. Try adding a slice of lemon for extra taste

  • 5 Foods To Beat CelluliteMACKEREL
Mackerel is rich in vital vitamins and antioxidants. “The oily fish is packed with the essential fatty acids EPA, DHA and ALA, which all help to improve the appearance of your skin,” Linda tells us. “These omega three fats reduce inflammation and help to keep your body’s cells hydrated. Mackerel is also packed with protein, which keeps you feeling fuller for longer, so you’re less likely to snack inbetween meals.”
    TIP
This fish tastes great with a side salad, including romaine lettuce, cucumber, cherry tomatoes and avocado
