Spirits vs Spin: Millennials Are Swapping This Evening Activity To Workout

2 MIN READ • 9th January 2020

It turns out that the days are over of heading to the pub after a long stint at the office, with new research from CLIF revealing 80 percent of Brits are more likely to meet a friend at the gym than the pub compared to a few years ago.

The top reasons for choosing a workout over wine were feeling energised as a result (52 percent), not having to chance feeling bad the next day (41 percent) – and even that there was no risk of doing anything embarrassing (10 percent)!

The younger generations already prefer working out with friends than alone, with a third of Gen-Z (32 percent) and Millennials (31 percent) saying they did this compared to 10 percent of those older than 35. For these respondents, over half (55 percent) preferred to use that time to socialise, making it easier to fit in seeing friends into their busy schedules this way.

Tapping into this trend and providing a well-needed antidote to the gloomy winter, CLIF is hosting a new kind of workout experience this January which brings together fitness and socialising. “The Energy Bar” pop-up will see attendees taking part in free spin classes set to tunes from DJ and fitness enthusiast Laura Whitmore, open to the public on 16th January 2020.

The Energy Bar will also offer a range of refreshing post-workout mocktails based on the flavours of CLIF’s plant-based energy bars, inspired by another cultural shift towards drinking non- and low-alcoholic drinks as 31% of respondents said their preferred drink in company was a soft one.

Open to the public on Thursday 16th January from 5pm to 10pm, the event aims to help attendees find the balance between keeping their New Year’s resolutions and having a good time!
