Davina McCall’s Workout Dos and Don’ts

2 MIN READ • 2nd August 2017

We speak to the TV presenter with abs of steel and discover her go-to full body workout

“Everything is a little hectic at the moment,” Davina tells us, in the car on her way to her next appointment. “So, I’m trying to do more at-home workouts as and when I can.” With a new television series and book on the horizon and two teenage daughters at home, Davina is busy. Really busy. But there’s no slowing her down when it comes to her dedicated approach to fitness. “I’m loving trying different classes right now to mix things up a bit and keep my body guessing. I’ve been doing Blend classes which is a mix of Pilates, boxing and barre workouts and this has been amazing – I’ve noticed such a difference in how I feel and how fit I’ve become as a result,” she tells us. While most of us cringe and shrink with horror at the thought of trying something new, Davina is no wallflower when it comes to throwing herself in at the deep end. “I tried a dance class the other day and it was hilarious, I was very uncoordinated but it was a lot of fun. I’ve got a charity cycle ride coming up which I do every year so I’ve been training for that by doing some spin classes which has been fantastic for cardio health. It’s exhausting but after each session I do feel like it’s getting a little easier each time which I love. Seeing progress is the biggest motivator for me and makes me more determined each time. Even though I work out a lot I always schedule at least three days off to rest or have active rest like walking my dogs. You have to let your body recover properly to see the benefits and keep it guessing with different workouts that push you out of your comfort zone. As we get older that becomes harder to do and we become a lot more self conscious about embarrassing ourselves but we have to push through it to grow.”
