Elle Macpherson’s Top Mental Wellbeing Tips

    • What mental wellbeing tips you swear by? “I sleep for seven hours a night and take the SUPER ELIXIR Greens without fail so my body is well-nourished with plant-based nutrients. I meditate for about 20 minutes when I first wake up. Often, I do a guided meditation which, for me, is a more nurturing way to start the day than scrolling through Instagram or reading emails. I find I sleep better too. If you’re starting out, there’s a lot of good meditation material available. Russell Simmons, for example, is a huge advocate and talks about how meditation changed his life. Apps such as Mind Space are also a good starting point. I also like The Mastery Project, which can be found online.”

    • What tips do you have for finding balance? “Balance is a tricky word but it’s also an important lifestyle choice for me. Some people think that balance is boring but I’ve found it to be just the opposite. If I don’t have balance, or at least try to achieve it, I start to feel stressed, don’t sleep well, and it’s hard to eat well and exercise. I don’t always get it right, and on those occasions, I’m kind to myself, reset and move forward. No matter how busy I am with business commitments, my philosophy is that my family and personal wellbeing comes first, and everything else falls into place after. On a personal level, I do my best to stick to a morning ritual of meditation and quietness, no matter where I am. It helps set the tone for the day and the routine is reassuring. I also love starting my day with some outdoor activity, such as hiking, swimming, or walking. This, combined with quality nutrition and a good night’s sleep, helps me on all levels. I find if I begin my day well, I’m better equipped to handle anything, and if I get off track I can always reset my day and start again!”

    • What’s your favourite sweet treat? “I love dark chocolate and vegan ice-cream.”

    • What advice would you give to someone suffering from low body confidence? “I encourage people to make a list of all the things they see as achievements, because often we forget how much we actually accomplish in our lives. This can give us confidence from within, because we know that what we’re creating will positively influence our lives.”

  • Do you worry about the impact of social media on your children, and how do you try to limit it? “My eldest had Facebook when he was younger. He set it up as an alias because I wouldn’t let him have an account – cheeky monkey! I found out about a year later. Today Flynn is nearly 21 and Cy is nearly 16 so I’m not sure I’m in a place to limit their communications! I’ve always encouraged the boys to be considered and responsible on Instagram.”
