CBD As Part Of Your Fitness Regime

3 MIN READ • 21st October 2019

CBD is being increasingly used by professional athletes to aid in the recovery from injury and muscle fatigue as it’s considered more benign than many traditional medications such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatories and opioids. Pushing yourself and stressing your body in an effort to get fit can often take you out of play for several days at a time, or longer if a serious injury results – amateurs and professionals alike are turning to CBD in such instances.

So what is CBD?
Cannabidiol, otherwise known as CBD, is one of over a hundred cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Unlike the better known and more popular cannabinoid THC, CBD is not psychoactive and is legal in the UK.

CBD in fitness
Anecdotal evidence suggests that the use of CBD can provide pain relief, reduce inflammation, lower anxiety and improve sleep, all of which could be extremely beneficial to fitness lovers. However, research on CBD is very scant and the majority of research on cannabinoids for pain has involved CBD with THC, as opposed to CBD alone. An increasing number of sports professionals are speaking up for the use of CBD for sports recovery. These include fighters, cyclists and football and hockey players. Professional rugby players George Kruis and Dom Day are perfect examples of how CBD can help. They have played and trained through pain and injury and use CBD as part of their daily routine – they believe that it helps them maintain a healthy lifestyle and has helped them reduce their use of other – potentially more harmful – medications. Keen to spread the word about the benefits of CBD, the pair launched fourfivecbd – a brand committed to offering the highest grade CBD products available, specifically designed to help you maintain an active lifestyle. But CBD is not just for professionals – whether you are a little sore from overstretching at a yoga class, have overdone it on your morning jog, or have an ache that is preventing you from getting a good night’s sleep, CBD could help.

Say hello to SeedsmanCBD
Launched in 2018, SeedsmanCBD brings clarity to the CBD market by offering customers high-grade, high quality, laboratory-tested products from the most reputable brands within the industry. All of their products have detailed information including a comprehensive breakdown of ingredients, ingestion methods and instructions of use so you can rest assured that you’re using the right product for you. The brand recognise the importance of quality analysis and endeavour to put each of their products through rigorous testing for potency and purity. All products must contain the declared amount of CBD or will be withdrawn from sales if testing produces different results. Since 2002, they’ve been a market leader in the field of cannabis and hemp. They are passionate about the therapeutic properties of the plant and excited by its growing reputation in the health and wellbeing industries, and they are not alone.

How to navigate CBD products
Creams and salves: CBD lotions and balms are applied to, and subsequently absorbed, via the skin. They act locally on specific problematic areas, similar to a muscle rub.
Oils: CBD oils are the most commonly used CBD products on the market today. CBD oil is made from a concentrated extract of industrially-grown hemp, containing a specified quantity of CBD, infused in edible oil, such as coconut, hemp seed or olive oil. The most commonly used extraction methods are either ethanol or CO2 extraction.
Edibles: CBD comes in snack bars, chocolate, protein powder and bars, and a wide array of drinks. These offer an easy way of consuming CBD either before or after working out.
Full-spectrum: as well as being rich in CBD, when you see this phrase it means that it contains other non-psychoactive cannabinoids and various plant compounds.
Broad-spectrum: used to refer to hemp extracts that contain CBD and other cannabinoids, but that have had THC removed.
