12 Days Of Wellness

2 MIN READ • 30th November 2018

We’ve (regrettably) done some research about the calorific catastrophe that is our average advent calendar. Over the course of 24 days, we consume an additional 58g of sugar and 533 calories before we’ve even scraped the ice off our windscreens. In our christmassy countdown we’ve focused less on the traditional chocolatey breakfast bite, and more on ideas for staying energised and calm in the lead up to the 25th.

    • Aromatherapy With the chaos of Christmas around the corner, relax with Handmade Natural’s Evening Primrose Oil (£7.95, handmadenaturals.co.uk).

    • Meditation Stressing less is something we all strive for towards the end of the year. Download the Headspace app for free meditation guidance (free, itunes.com).

    • Sugar-free sweet treats If you’re missing your morning choc, have no fear, there are plenty of sugar-free snack options out there. Our go-tos are the original sugar-free elderflower herbal nibbles from Ricola (£0.92, hollandandbarrett.com).

    • Clean and green Perfect for a much-needed soak, eco-conscious bath products are must-haves on any wellness wishlist. Try Friendly Soap’s Mini Hair and Body Bar (£0.70, friendlysoap.co.uk).

    • Find your frugal side Download a budgeting app or apply for a card such as Monzo. It takes two minutes and could prevent a serious January cash crash! (Find out more at monzo.com).

    • Podlaugh Find a funny podcast for your morning commute or to simply play while tidying up after your teenagers. Friday Night Dinner from Radio 4 is a firm favourite of ours (free, itunes.com).

    • Get read-y Purchase an empowering book and task yourself to get through it before the big day. If you haven’t got much time on your hands we suggest Chidera Eggerue’s What a Time To Be Alone – read a few pages daily to boost those important feelings of self-worth (£9.22, wordery.com).

    • D for December Seasonal affective disorder is a particular problem at this time of year, so taking vitamin D supplements can really fight the winter woes. Try the super strength D3 spray from Healthspan (£5.99, healthspan.com).

    • Guilt-free make-up Beauty products made with the planet in mind are something we can all get behind. If you want to fight the winter chap but are looking for something ethical, try Balmkind Alpine Rose Lip Balm (£13, balmkind.co.uk).

    • Bye to boardom A new board game is the perfect way to bring the family together on cold nights. Obama Llama and Bananagrams are a couple of the best. However, we all know that, when it comes to family fun, Scrabble always comes up top trumps.

    • Dear diary New stationery is always exciting, but purchasing your 2019 diary and jotting down a few January plans can stop you feeling deflated. Making the fact that you have lots to be excited about visible really helps you to feel excited and motivated about the year ahead! An uplifting favourite of ours is the Liberty Faber Poetry Diary 2019 (£14.99, waterstones.com).

  • Light it up Our senses are a vital part of relaxation. A warming scent is the perfect accompaniment to the natural bath and aromatherapy oils we’ve suggested. Our fiery favourite is the Neom Christmas Wish Candle (£32, neomorganics.com).
